About Us

A Little Barkley History

Mike and Marilyn Barkley established Barkley Funeral Chapels in Greenup and Toledo in 1971. Ed and Dave Lashmet formerly owned the Toledo facility, on the square, while the Greenup chapel was constructed from a personal residence on North Kentucky Street. In 1971, the funeral homes were still offering ambulance services and did so until 1980 when the villages took over that service. Scott Stults, Wayne McMorris and Bill Bland were long-time employees at Barkley's.

In 2008, Scott and his wife Lori, purchased the two locations from Mike and Marilyn. Joining Scott was fellow employee Wayne McMorris. Wayne retired from the funeral business in 2015 after over 40 years. Scott's daughter Mckenzi Easton joined the family business in 2014. After Wayne's retirement, Tony McMorris, Greenup native, joined Barkley's full time as a licensed funeral director.
