William Edward “Bill” Neal, 75, of Casey, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2026.
At the time of his passing, Angela Richards, whom he loved like a daughter and who lovingly knew him as Pops, was by his side. His beloved dog, Jessie, was also with him.
Bill was born on October 30, 1950, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Charles Edward “Chod” Neal and Lorraine Roan Neal. He graduated from Cumberland High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On November 9, 1990, Bill married the love of his life, Bobbie Ann Mayfield. They shared many years together until her passing on December 2, 2012.
Throughout his life, Bill worked as a farmer, mechanic, crane operator, and heavy equipment operator. He eventually retired from Bolin Enterprises. Bill took great pride in his work and the friendships he made throughout his career. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others whenever he could.
A gifted woodworker, Bill loved creating things with his hands. Friends, family, and neighbors often saw him outside his home building picnic tables from wooden pallets or working on various woodworking projects, usually with a large mug of black coffee close at hand. He found joy in making things for friends and family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who knew Bill will remember his generous spirit, his craftsmanship, and the many conversations shared over a cup of coffee.
Bill is survived by his children, Billy Neal, Christopher Neal, and Melissa Neal; his stepchildren, Elizabeth (Joseph) Blount, Billy Phillips, and Floyd Phillips; his brother, Dave Neal; his sister, Diane (Charles) Lawrence; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately known as his “grands and greats”; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Ann Neal; his daughter, Melinda Neal; his stepdaughter, Susan “Susie” Bond; his father, Charles Edward “Chod” Neal; his mother, Lorraine Roan Neal; and his nephew, Rusty Stewart.
Bill’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the friends he helped, the things he built, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His family encourages those who knew him to remember him in their own way and to cherish the memories they shared.
