Wanda Ellen (Houser) Hawes

Wanda Ellen Hawes, 84, of Greenup, IL passed away at 9:56 pm on November 17, 2020 at Cumberland Rehab & Health Center in Greenup, IL.

Memorial graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday November 28, 2020 at the Greenup Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.

Wanda was born in Jasper County, IL on June 30, 1936 the daughter of Bernie “Hooker” and Marjorie (Bell) Houser. She married Russell Hawes on February 11, 1954 and he preceded her on April 1, 1991. Surviving are her children Rusty (Beverly) Hawes of Effingham, Kathy (Joe) Preston of Greenup, Sandy (Bobby) Collins of Mattoon, Sharon (Gary) Conner of Martinsville, IL and Joyce (Greg) Lubbers of Mishawaka, IN; sisters Rose Eggers, Dixie Seiler and Carolyn Byrnes; 9 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Terry, Vic, Charles “Bud”, Gene, and Butch Houser; sisters Ethel Faye Warner, Connie Sue Starwalt, Marjorie Ann Trostle, Evelyn Matteson, and Shirley Stanley.

Wanda worked for over 30 years at Ettelbrick Shoe Company in both Greenup and Casey, IL. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Greenup, IL, and a member of the Greenup American Legion Auxiliary.
