Terry Sue Sowers

Terry Sue Sowers, 78, of Greenup, IL passed away at 5:50 am on Thursday November 20, 2025, at the Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday November 25, 2025, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Greenup with Brooke Davis officiating. The Visitation will be on Monday evening, November 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., also at the church. The burial will be in the Brooks Cemetery, rural Rose Hill, IL. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family with arrangements.

Terry was born on April 10, 1947, in Effingham, IL to Thomas and Thelma (Douthit) Marshall Sr. She married John Sowers on December 18, 1965, in Newton, IL. Terry is survived by her husband, children Michele Kinder of Hidalgo, IL, John Douglas Sowers of O’Fallon, IL, Joseph (Keri) Sowers of Falmouth, IL, and David (Madison) Sowers of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren Haley (Gabe) Carpenter, Jesse (Katie) Kinder, Madison (Nick) Kettelkamp, Judd (Macy) Sowers, Lexi Sowers, Kaci Sowers, Charlie Sowers, and Sam Sowers; great grandchildren Nora, Josiah, and Judah Carpenter, Joel and Elliot Kinder, and Elowen Kettelkamp; brothers Tim Marshall of Florida and Ted (Melissa) Marshall of Claremont, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tom Marshall Jr., sister Tami Jane Valsilchek, and great grandson Jameson Carpenter.

Terry married her high-school sweetheart, Johnny, at age 18.  She worked at a factory and as a switchboard operator until she and John started their family where she embraced the role of homemaker and worked alongside John on the family farm. Terry lived her life devoted to Jesus Christ. She was an involved member of the Church where she taught Sunday School, guided Youth Programs, along with countless other ways to spread the word of God. Her passions included her faith, her family, quilting, and puppeteering. Terry was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, GiGi, and friend whose kindness and love left a lasting mark on everyone she met. To know her was truly to love her, and she will be missed beyond measure.
