Sheila Rae (McMechan) Holsapple, 65, of Greenup, IL entered her heavenly home with Jesus, November 2, 2020 after a complicated battle with Wegener’s Disease and COVID-19. Sheila was born in Coles County, IL on February 24th, 1955 the daughter of Kenneth and Maye (Kemper) McMechan. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1973 and Springfield Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1975 to become a Registered Nurse, a profession that she loved and practiced every day of her life.
Sheila married Terry Holsapple, on April 3rd, 1976 and together they built a family in their country home in rural Greenup. She held many titles over the years: farmwife, nurse, teacher, school nurse, CEO of the Earthborne Farm Pumpkin Patch and Supporter of the Cumberland County Tea Party and Republican Party. She loved her garden, summertime, grandkids, and traveling to their MN lake house (if it was warm out) and spending time with her large family. She never turned down a good game night or card game.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 44 years, Terry, her two sons: Obadiah (Bo)(wife, Jami) of Greenup, IL; Drew (wife, Hope) of Greenup, IL, and one daughter, Paige Kidder (husband, Josh) of Richland, MI. Grandchildren: Tucker, Tanner, Clove, Charlie, Vine and Vail. Siblings include Kenneth Allen (dec.), Ronnie McMechan (dec.), Sandy Eades (Springfield, IL), Karen Pfifer (Dover, FL.), Sharon Shull, (H) Steve (Newton, IL), Susan Beaumont (Greenup, IL). Sheila was preceded in death by many family members who she loved dearly.
Sheila was the definition of kindness. She helped countless people through hard times but never batted an eye to assume the role of caregiver even when the odds were not in her favor. Even through the darkest of times she always kept things positive and had the time for a good inside joke, a funny story or shenanigans. The occasional whoopie cushion, Billy-bob teeth or fake wig would always somehow find their way to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner!
Sheila’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 11:30AM at their family farm in Greenup, IL (the old pumpkin patch); 754 CR 1625 E. Greenup, IL. The casual service will include a celebration of her life and a meal for all afterwards, per her wishes. Memorials can be made to the Sheila Holsapple Memorial Fund. This fund will be granted to students pursuing a career in Nursing. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with the services.
