Sandra Lou Warfel, age 89 of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Greenup, IL passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 3:09 p.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 13, 2026, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery immediately following the funeral. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Sandra was born January 1, 1937, in Hazel Dell, IL the daughter of Paul and Helen (Tipsword) Luke. She married the love of her life, Glenn Warfel, on September 5, 1954, and he preceded her in death in June 2013. They were married for nearly 59 years.
Sandra was a graduate of Casey High School and Lake Land College. She was employed as a secretary early in her marriage. She worked at Arndt’s Store for 13 years. Sandra later worked at the Jewett Post Office as an Assistant Postmaster for 6 years. During election time, she worked as an election judge for Cumberland County for several years.
Sandra was a member of the South Side Church of Christ, Mattoon, IL. She enjoyed reading and movies but most of all loved spending time with her family. She was thoroughly delighted with family holidays and vacations.
Sandra is survived by her children Tammy (James) Eads of Mattoon, IL; Nancy (Kurt) Wellbaum of Springfield, IL; Brian (Tammi) Warfel of Mattoon, IL; and Mark (Tina) Warfel of Lincoln, IL. 10 Grandchildren- Joseph (Jamie) Wellbaum of Springfield, IL; Bethany Wellbaum (Liz Watkins) of Williamsville, IL; Samantha (Austin) Timm and Luke Eads of Mattoon, IL; Clayton (Lexi) Warfel of Mattoon, IL; Emma (Tate) Fultz of Sullivan, IL; Lance (Lauren) Warfel of Evansville, IN; Cassandra (Cal) Smolik of Morris, IL; Logan and Kyle Warfel of Lincoln, IL. 9 Great Grandchildren- Brooke and Michael; Griffin and Kipton; Andre and Jaece; Caden and Donovan; and Weston. Brother-in-laws Doyle (Carolyn) Warfel; Larry (Linda) Warfel; and Ronnie Warfel. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Kimberly Sue Warfel, sister Kay (John) Strange, father-in-law Rual (Edna) Warfel, brothers-in-law Robert (Rosie) Warfel, Raymond (Mildred) Warfel, sisters-in-law Mabel (Orville) Kibler and Janet Sachua.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Cumberland Rehab & Health Care Center Greenup, IL or Odd Fellow- Rebekah Nursing Home Mattoon, IL.
