September 28, 1941 ~ October 25, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Richard Alan Collins, 82, of Montrose, passed away at 4:57 pm on Wednesday October 25, 2023, at the Lakeland Rehab and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm noon on Monday October 30, 2023, at the Toledo Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm noon prior to the service. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.
Richard was born on September 28, 1941, a son of Claude Mason and Helen Eileen (Thompson) Collins, in Atwood, IL. He married Sharon Yocum on April 9, 1960. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; daughters Teresa (Mike) Blattel and Lisa Dunn; son Chris (Tammy) Collins; grandchildren Bryan Collins, Emily (Jared) Weiss, Katie (Chris) Conrad, Brittany Porter, Cody Porter, Breanna (Cole) Carlen, Macie Collins and fiancé Trenten Adamson, Brooke (Trevor) Curry, and Kalina Dunn; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Ronnie (Lois) Collins, Bobby (Sandy) Collins; and brother-in-law Don Searles. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Searles and two great-grandchildren Rimmi Wheeler and Stella Curry.
Richard’s career in the construction business spanned over a 40-year period, working with Operators Union Local #841 and being Superintendent for Howell Asphalt in Mattoon. After his retirement in 2006, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling together. For many years, Richard drove the church bus taking their church family on many memorable trips. In his spare time, Richard mastered the art of woodworking, making many pieces of furniture for family and friends.
