Michael P. Oakley

Michael P. Oakley, 60, of Greenup passed away at 10:40 am on Thursday November 9, 2023, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday November 13, 2023, at the Toledo Christian Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 12, 2023, in the Cumberland High School Gymnasium from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The family encourages you to wear Cardinal attire to honor Mike. The burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery following Monday’s service. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.

Mike was born on February 10, 1963, a son of Paul and Carolyn (Sallee) Oakley, in Charleston, IL. He married Tammy Nickles on June 10, 1983. Survivors include his loving wife, Tammy; son Levi (Heather) Oakley; and daughter Lindsey (Jeremy) James;  affectionately  known as papaw to Keely, Aydan, Collin, Averie, and Rylan; brothers Tom Oakley and Jim (Karen) Oakley; sister Sharon Capshaw; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was a 1981 graduate of Cumberland High School. Mike enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, making trips to Tennessee to visit with his brother Jim and Karen and taking trips to St. Louis to attend the Cardinal games. He liked being outside mowing and maintaining his yard and always enjoyed life to its fullest.  Mike was the transportation director for the Cumberland School District Unit #77 for 30 plus years. He enjoyed greeting the school children during the morning bus drop-offs with smiles and high fives and overlooked the children and bus drivers at the end of the day, making sure they were all getting home safely.
