LeRoy Newlin, 86, of Newton, IL passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Newton Care Center. Due to the highly active Covid-19 pandemic, no funeral services will be held. He wished to be cremated at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup.
LeRoy was born April 26, 1934 in Delavan, IL. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and started living his life ‘his way’. LeRoy made friends wherever he went. The song “MY WAY” is how a lot of people remember him as he embarked on his many adventures throughout life, working with Look Magazine, buying his first plane, then eventually settling in Knoxville TN. During this time frame he took up woodcrafts, carpentry and sawmill work, helped in building a well-known athletic club in Maryville TN, building two unique custom homes he and previous wife Jeane McBrayer Newlin lived in, built his duel catamaran houseboat. He enjoyed hosting parties, being a chef, and was a formidable opponent in chess, and loved playing his harmonica. He felt quite honored winning the Burl Ives look-alike contest.
LeRoy is survived by his Daughter Bambi Kelly; his Grandchildren Chris & Christy, Darci, Chelsi & Josh, Candis, and Andy; his Great Grandchildren Wesley, Sarah, Julia; Dara, Aida; and his sisters, Jane Page, Patsy Snyder, and Sharon & Gary Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dale J. and Opal (Griffith) Newlin; his daughters Tami and Cheri; brothers Donald and Thomas Newlin; and sisters Maxine Litwiller , Joyce Lux, JoAnn Walk, and Linda Mullen.
