Karen Carr Obituary

Karen Sue Carr, age 72, passed away at 4:25pm on February 19, 2025, at Cumberland Rehab & Rehabilitation in Greenup, where she had lived the last two years.

A Celebration of Life honoring Karen Sue will be held at the Toledo Christian Church on Saturday, March 22 at 11:30am, with a catered meal to follow. The family requests everyone to dress casually. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born November 12, 1952, in Greenup, and was the second of seven children born to David (Herman) and Marjorie Kite Carr. Karen was born with a broken body, cerebral palsy, which would not allow her to fully walk or talk. Her muscles were stiff, and movements for labored her entire body. Those difficulties never prevented her however from having a great joy for life, people, her family, and for Jesus.  Her communication skills were the most effective in our family. She had a natural likeability since she was a small child. She could win over any heart made of stone and melt away others’ anxieties- all without words, using only a warm smile and her incredible spirit. She was social, a beacon of likeability, and joined every group for any activity. She always cherished family dinners, laughter, good jokes, and birthday & Christmas presents. Everyone who met her, remembers her. She will be forever missed.

Karen Sue left behind her brothers, their wives and children; Dick (Sue) Carr, Dan (Robin) Carr, Dwayne “Chub” Carr, and Doug (Barb) Carr; sister; Sherry Carr, sister-in-law, Gayle Bland Carr. Her special “angels”; Linda Ruth Markwell, Andrea Carr Murphy, and Ashley Carr Klepzig, Beth from Park Place Group home in Centralia, IL, and her special, great-nephew, Casen. Karen Sue always pointed with her finger upward to Heaven for all those family members who had passed before her: her parents, Dave & Marge; her brother, Davey; her sister-in-law, B.J. Houser Carr; all ten of her dad’s siblings and their spouses and the two sisters (and their families) of her mom’s. May they all rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations honoring Karen Sue can be made directly to the Toledo Christian Church, 501 S. Maryland St., Toledo, IL 62468.
