Julie Mae Dowell

Julie Mae Dowell, 64, of Mattoon, IL. passed away at 10:21 pm on September 11, 2021, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  The Barkley Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.

Julie was born on October 4, 1956, in Mattoon, IL to Howard Max and Violet (Schoby) Stites. Survivors include Mother Violet Whitaker; son Matthew D. Woolever; granddaughter Alissa Bell; sister Shelley (Greg) Carlen; stepbrother Larry Whitaker; step sister Brenda Wilson; nieces and nephews Melissa Lodes, Chad Stites, Angela Stites, Marshall Carlen, and Levi Carlen; also surviving are several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father Howard Max Stites and stepfather Keith Whitaker; brother Dennis Stites; stepbrother Jack Whitaker; and stepsister Sandra Kinnaman.

Julie worked for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for 38 years. She was known for her famous sugar cookies and being a remarkable seamstress. In her spare time, Julie loved to sit on her porch swing, doing puzzles, loved her cats but most of all, loved her family. She was a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Mattoon, IL. Julie attended Good Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Trilla, IL.

Memorials can be made to Good Prospect Church.
