John Spivey

John Spivey, 82, of Effingham, IL passed away at 12:00 pm on October 12, 2023, at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Charleston, IL.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday October 20, 2023, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 to service time on Friday at the funeral chapel. The burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

John was born on December 11, 1940, in Hutsonville, IL to Samuel and Ida Mae (Owen) Spivey. He married Carolyn Sue Titus on March 20, 1971, and she preceded him on September 18, 1997. Survivors include sons Mark Spivey, Don Spivey, and Charles (Teah Lawson) Spivey; five grandchildren Sierra, Jessica, Brandon, Isaiah, and Briar; seven great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jim, Bill, and Ed Spivey, sisters Bonnie Wright, Emma Lewis, and Mary LaForge.

John had served his country in the US Army. He was a head press operator at World Color Press for thirty plus years. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or Pancreatic Cancer Research. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
