Janet (Sowers) Pitcher

Janet Pitcher, 91, of Jewett, IL passed away at 10:20 PM, Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center Effingham, IL.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be in the Island Creek Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Janet was born on October 22, 1928 in Jewett, IL. The daughter of Otis and Evalena (Huisinga) Sowers. She married Raymond Pitcher on September 8, 1948 and he preceded her on November 22, 1997. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Kathy) Pitcher and Chuck (Sandy) Goebel; daughters, Judy (Gene) Carter, Susan Montgomery and Laura (Jeff) Volk; daughter in law Julie Pitcher (Delbert Steffen);  fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Carol) Sowers, Albert (Carolyn) Sowers and Robert (Joan) Sowers; sister, Marlene (L.D.) Pitcher; and brother in law, Doyle Webb. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Rick and Ben Pitcher; son in law, Tom Montgomery; one grandchild; and sisters, Virginia Goebel, Joann Corbin and Carolyn Webb.

Janet was a homemaker that loved painting, gardening and most importantly being a grandma. She was a member of Harmon Chapel United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or Donor’s Choice.
