James Ray Washburn, 75, of Greenup, Illinois passed away at 7:25 pm on Saturday March 8, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Friday March 14, 2025, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service. The burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery with Military Rites by the Cumberland County Veterans.
James was born on September 28, 1949, in Tuscola, Illinois, to Virgil and Lula Carolyn (Robey) Washburn. He is survived by his son Elliott Washburn, daughter Jenny Marie (Kevin) Maynard and stepdaughter Lori (Scott) Wilson, grandchildren Allyson Marie Maynard, Kristin Stout, Kendall Wilson, and Mitchell Wilson, great grandchildren Jesse James Whitaker and Levi Alexander Whitaker, and sister Barbara Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon Washburn and granddaughter Addyson Marie Maynard.
James was a carpenter. He also worked at Scott’s Building Center for 15 years. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war from 1969 – 1971. James was a member of the Casey Masonic Lodge # 442 AFAM, and a lifetime member at the Greenup VFW, the Greenup American Legion, and at the Cumberland Sportsman’s Club.
James enjoyed woodworking and helping neighbors with farming and butchering. He also enjoyed volunteering at the sportsman’s club.
