James "Rusty" Abbott

James “Rusty” Abbott, 64, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 11:15 am on August 14, 2025, at Mattoon Rehab and Health Care in Mattoon, IL.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday August 19, 2025, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Greenup, IL. On Wednesday August 20, 2025, there will be a graveside service at French Cemetery in Allenville, IL at 9:30 am. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL is assisting the family.

Rusty was born on May 12, 1961, in Mattoon, IL to Jesse James and Georgia (Maxedon) Abbott. He married Roberta “Robin”, and she preceded in him in death. Survivors include a son Dustin Abbott; brother Paul (Lisa) Abbott; sisters Leta (Kenny) Davis, and Lois Pugh. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Doyle, Van, Gene, Jesse Jr., Glen, Ted, Ivan, and Donald; sisters Norma Sheets, Beatrice Winchester, Marge Moran, and Bernice Moran.
