Harold "H.A." Wilson Obituary

Harold Andrew Wilson (H.A.), 72 of Toledo passed away at 12:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2020 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.  H.A. was born on November 28, 1947 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Harold J. and Olive (Thompson) Wilson of Toledo. 

A public visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL. Due to Covid-19 the family will not be present for the visitation. A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Toledo Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Cumberland County Veterans.

He married Brenda Whitaker on February 18, 1966.  They had three children, Harold D. (H.D.) of Charleston, IL, Bailey K. (Melita) of LaCrosse, WI, and D. Jay (Amy) of Decatur, GA. Grandchildren, Eva, Gage, Henry, Frank, Olive, Rufus, Max, and Whit enjoyed good times with Pap at St. Louis Cardinal games, fishing, shooting and hanging out at the woodworking shop.

H.A. received a degree in Radio and Television from SIU Carbondale in 1976.  He served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, retiring as a Lt. Col. He was stationed in Vietnam, from 1969 to 1970.  Duty stations included Communications Officer for 3rd Armored Division in Frankfurt, Germany and Commander of Armed Forces Korean Network in Korea. After retiring from the military, H.A. worked as Vice President of Operations at Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, FL and taught Industrial Arts at Cumberland High School for 15 years. 

Softball was his love and favorite past time for over 20 years.  H.A. contributed much of his time working with Cumberland’s softball programs and improving and maintaining the softball facilities at the American Legion.  His players and softball fans were family. 

Making furniture was a craft he developed over many years, and he enjoyed making wooden flag cases for the memorial services of veterans. 

Preceding H.A. in death were his parents and brothers, Jay and Max. He is survived by his former wife, children and grandchildren, sister Alice (Phil) Sherwood of Toledo, brother John (Brenda) Wilson of Toledo, and sisters-in-law Judy Wilson and Jeanie Wilson of Toledo.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Softball programs.
