Gerald Dean Hawes

Gerald Dean Hawes, 85, of Greenup, IL passed away at 9:05 pm on November 19, 2020 at Cumberland Rehab & Health Center in Greenup, IL.

Graveside funeral services with military rites will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday November 25, 2020 at the Greenup Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:45 Wednesday at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL.  

Dean was born in Greenup, IL on October 3, 1935 to Ed & America (McMorris) Hawes. He married Josephine “Jo” Ghast on July 12, 1997 and she preceded him on February 11, 2020. Surviving is his son Gerry (Vicki) Hawes, daughter Becky (Tim) Anderson; stepsons Bill Ghast, Bob Ghast and Bruce (Connie) Ghast;  grandchildren Kelsey Hawes, Kit Anderson and Jacob Anderson, BJ Ghast, Dakota Ghast, Melanie Seymour, Sarah Ghast, Derek (Lauti) Ghast, Seth (Meghan) Ghast and Shelby (Jeff) Babbs; seven great grandchildren; sisters Donna Henson and Judy (Brian) Broniec. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elwood, Fred, Russell, Leland “Bud” and Johnny Hawes, sisters Catherine Elliott and Lucille Paden.

Dean was a custodian at Cumberland High School for 22 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Greenup United Methodist Church. Memorials can be made to the Greenup Methodist Church. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
