Gary D. Shreffler, 60, of Lerna, IL, formerly of Flora, IL and Corry, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday May 30, 2021.
Friends and family are invited for a casual open house offering food and fellowship at the Greenup American Legion on Saturday June 12, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A celebration of life service and Military Rites will begin at 4:00 pm. Gary ‘s last wish, that his ashes will rest in the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania where he grew up. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.
Gary was born on August 29, 1960 in Titusville, PA to Donald and Sally (Borland) Shreffler. He married Cindy Davis Mills on February 12, 2021.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy; his parents Don and Sally Shreffler of Flora, IL; children Kyle Shreffler, Kody (Samantha) Shreffler and Kristen Young (Matt); sisters Debra (Mark) Hilliard and Donna (Chuck) Wolke; grandchildren Valeria, Vincent, O’Rien, Link and Saria. He was preceded in death by grandparents Harry and Betty Borland and Gerald and Winifred Shreffler.
Gary served his country for 14 years in the US Marine Corp. and had been stationed at places all over the US and beyond. He also lived in Spain, and worked for the Spanish Government designing, testing and Teaching Aircraft Engine reparation and maintenance. He recently retired from Stevens Industries in Teutopolis, IL. Gary loved hunting, tinkering with motors, and repairing anything, tending his goat Esmerelda & his chickens and spending time outdoors.
