Ernie Barnes

Ernie Barnes, 84, of Jewett, IL passed away on October 12, 2023, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday October 21, 2023, at Harmony Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. is assisting the family.

Ernie was born on June 3, 1939, at home in Jewett, IL to Roscoe and Calla (Greeson) Barnes. He married Donna Dudley on July 30, 1959, and she preceded him on January 2, 2020. Survivors include sons Mike (Donna) Barnes, Guy Barnes and Lonnie (Teresa) Barnes all of Greenup, IL; brother Harold Barnes; 8 grandchildren Erica Bueker, Brandon Barnes, Mandy (Spencer) Pfeiffer, Levi Barnes, Anthony Barnes, Coty (Megan) Barnes, Megan Barnes and Nikki (Zachary) Poe; ten great grandchildren Julian Bueker, Kaitlyn Bueker, Lucas Bueker, Mason Houser, Kyeslynn Barnes, Grace Poe, Allie Barnes, Emelia Poe, Zeq Plunkett and Owen Pfeiffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronnie Barnes and infant sister Cheryl Barnes.

Ernie worked at Fedder’s in Effingham for 42 years. After retirement he was a courier for the First Neighbor Bank for several years. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising cattle. In his spare time, he would always be hunting or fishing. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Greenup Fire Department.
