Elsie Marie Short

Elsie Marie Short, 86, of Greenup, IL passed away at 8:17 pm on August 7, 2022, at the Cumberland Rehab and Health Care in Greenup, IL.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday August 13, 2022, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 to service time on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

Elsie was born in Greenup, IL to Alvin & Myrtle (Gast) Hawes. She married Robert Lee “Bob” Short on July 2, 1960, and he preceded her in 2002. Survivors include daughter Sherry Short and son Gary Short; two grandchildren Jacob James Short and Tia Renee Short. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Marshall, Johnny, Douglas, and Robert Dale Hawes; sisters Helen Small, Carolyn Bland, Linda Niccum, Norma Kendall, and Edith Bright.

Elsie was a clerk at the Greenup IGA for years. She also in the past was a babysitter and worked at Ettelbrick Shoe Company. She loved tending her flower gardens in the summer, she was an avid reader and loved her pets Foxy Lou and Snowball. Elsie always enjoyed getting to take trips to the Casinos.
