Donald Dean Swim

Donald Dean Swim, 94, of Greenup, IL passed away at 2:18 AM Friday, July 3, 2020 at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center in Greenup, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until funeral time. Burial with military rites conducted by the Cumberland County Veterans will be in the Greenup Cemetery. The family requests face coverings and to respect social distances.

Dean was born November 27, 1925 in Greenup, IL the son of Harold and Iva (Ward) Swim. He married Alice Marie Hattrup on April 24, 1948 and she preceded him in 1990. He is survived by his sons, Alan Swim of Fort Wayne, IN and Gary (Cindy) Swim of Charleston, IL; daughters, Gail Nelson and Mary Dodson of Greenup, IL; six grandchildren, Joshua Dodson, Jennifer Dodson (Brian Akers), Sara (Marcus) Millsap, Megan Nelson, Daniel (Anna) Nelson and Michaela Swim; and four great grandchildren, Ian J Dodson, Avery and Hayden Millsap and Sloane Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Theo and Gene Swim.

Dean retired from Blaw Knox in Mattoon, IL. He was a U.S. Marine from 1944-1946, a life member of the Greenup VFW Post #4598 and the Greenup American Legion. He lived for Cardinals baseball.
