Donald E. Stephen

Donald E. Stephen, 76, of Casey, IL. passed away on Saturday July 9, 2022, at 11:58 am at his residence.

Funeral service will be held on Friday July 15, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. Visitation will be on Thursday July 14, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with Masonic Rites starting at 7:00 pm, also at the Barkley Funeral Chapel.  Burial will be in the Casey Township Cemetery- Vernon Addition with Military Rites by Clark County Veterans.

Don was born on September 22, 1945, son of Max and Ruth (Perisho) Stephen, in Martinsville, IL.  He married Barbara Bower on June 23, 1990, and she preceded him on June 15, 2020.  Don is survived by his children, Lesa (Jeff) Swanson, Tony (Amy) Stephen, Stephanie (Kelly) Scott, and Kathy (Dustin) Smith; grandchildren, Lainy, Ally, and Austin Stephen, Baylee, Quintin and Savannah Scott, and Laila, Maura Kay, and Kimber Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Paul, Roy, and Betty.

Don was a farmer and owned and operated the Quail Shed Hunting Preserve from 1995 to 2007.  He served on the Illinois Farm Bureau Board for many years. Don was a decorated Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was a published author. Don organized Vietnam veterans’ reunions for over 50 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Mattoon American Legion and member and past commander of the Casey VFW. He belonged to the Casey Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Casey VFW. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
