Chester Arthur Smith

Chester Arthur Smith, 87, of Casey, IL passed away at 12:10 pm on Friday April 25, 2025, at his residence.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date in the Aten Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Arthur was born in Orchardville, IL to Burl and Lela Naomi (Cook) Smith on November 10, 1937. He married Karen Phillips in August of 1962 and had four sons: Jerry (Jami) Smith, Richard (Kim) Smith, Bryan (Christine) Smith, and Jamie (Tina) Smith. He married Ellen Black in 1981, and she preceded him in 2015. Her children are Gerald Wayne Black (deceased), Larry Black, Jesse Black, Roger Black, Virginia Ludeman, Judy Budd (deceased), Sharon Howe, Kathie Beasley, and Brenda McComas. He later married Dorothy Corbett in May of 2016 and her children are Iris (Llyod) McNurlan, Kathy (Vernon deceased) Cisney, Karen (Mark) Haley, Ron Gross, Steve Gross (deceased) and Steve’s special friend Brenda Franklin, Wally Gross, and Beth Morgan. Siblings; Beverly (Eugene) Starwalt, and Audrey Houser; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerus step grandchildren and great step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law William “Bill” Houser, and nephew Phillip Starwalt.

Arthur was a farmer and truck driver for many years.
