Charles Monroe Chapman, 80, of Greenup, IL. passed away on January 10, 2023, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be at 2:00 pm on Monday January 16, 2023, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery.
Charles was born in Effingham, IL on November 7, 1942, to Ray and Pauline (Townsend) Chapman. He married Connie Rife on February 28, 1969. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; sons Marc (Theresa) Chapman and Corey (Candice) Chapman; grandchildren Jordan Chapman, Tyler (Gina) Chapman, Maddison (James) Cowger, Dayton (Shannon) White, Kaitlyn (Gunner) St. Clair, Justin Chapman, Korie Tucker, and Noah Chapman; great grandchildren Adilynn Mell, Stormy Cowger, Jace St. Clair, and Charlie Jane St. Clair. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Norval; and two sisters Lela Smith and Ellen Steven.
Charles was a farmer and worked for 18 years at Veliscol Chemical Corp. in Marshall. After its closing Charles hauled propane for different companies for years.
He was a member and past master many times of the AF&AM Masonic Lodge #442 in Casey, was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, Eastern Star #79, Anid Shriners of East St. Louis. He was a very active member of the Clark County Shrine Club. Charles served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. Memorials can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
