Betty "Bet" R. Thompson

Betty “Bet” R. Thompson, 97, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Greenup, passed away at 12:55 pm on Monday June 15, 2026, at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

Per Bet’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A one-hour memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 -11:00 am on Thursday June 25, 2026, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. A memorial service will follow beginning at 11:00 am. The burial will be in the Medsker Cemetery, in Melrose, IL.

 Bet was born on January 7, 1929, in Mattoon, IL to Harold and Mildred (Dunn) Davidson. She married James Thompson on December 14, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2009. Survivors include her son Terry (Susan) Thompson; grandchildren Greg (Kate) Thompson, Matt Thompson (Fiancé Leah Ripley), Andy (Laura) Thompson, Jody (Eric) Ryan, and Chris (Christen) Thompson and Troy Thornton; great grandchildren Maxwell, William and Samuel Thompson, Callie and Lia Thompson, Charlotte and Colgan Thompson, Kaelyn Ryan, and Wade and Kaia Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons Michael Thompson and Robert “Bob” Thompson.

Bet was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the family farm.
