Annie Mae (Grimes) Bird

Annie Mae Bird, 95, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 1:45 AM, Monday, November 2, 2020 at Mattoon Rehab and Health Care Center in Mattoon, IL.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Mullen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL.

Annie was born November 18, 1924 in Florida. She is the daughter of Wilburn and Bessie (Clark) Grimes. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Ard, Mark Ard, Richard Ard, Carl Ard and Willie VanScyoc; daughters, Joyce Worman and Diane Bloodsworth; thirty-two grandchildren; and forty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leslie Ard, Ben VanScyoc and Lloyd Bird; sons, Ricky and Howard Eugene “Pete” Ard; daughter Jackie Lawhorn; brother Jr. Grimes and sister Vera Key.

Annie worked as a broom maker and in the cotton and sugarcane fields for many years.
