Ronald G. Shull, affectionately known as “Bub” to his family and friends, passed away at the age of 83 on December 10, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be at Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL on Sunday, December 15th, 2019 at 2:00 PM with burial following at the Greenup Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to service time.
On June 3, 1936, Bub was the second of seven born to Burl & Maxine (Stirewalt) Shull. He is survived by his sisters Lynn Carrell and Donna Kenneaster and was preceded in death by his parents; siblings John Shull, Beverly Ewart, Karen Sue Mooday and Shirley Chamness.
Bub served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1960 – 1962. Upon his return home, he reconnected with his love of farming and joined his father Burl and brother-in-law Cliff in overseeing the family farm operation. As time went on, he also developed a passion for racing horses and loved to watch them compete at local races. One of his greatest pleasures later in life was gathering with friends for morning and afternoon coffee at the local Casey’s General Store to keep up to speed on the latest community news. When he became unable to attend these gatherings, he relished having loved ones and friends visit him at Heartland Senior Living.
Bub proudly served his community as a long-standing member of the Greenup Township Board, Cumberland County Fair Board, Greenup American Legion and Greenup Masonic Lodge #125 AFAM. Memorials can be made to Heartland Senior Living Activity Fund at 101 Trowbridge Road, Neoga, IL 62447. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
