Mary Greeson Obituary

 

Mary I. Greeson, 94, of Toledo, IL passed away at 5:22 AM on March 25, 2018 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, IL.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 31, 2018 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Toledo Cemetery.

Mary was born in Charleston, IL on November 16, 1923 the daughter of Helen (Walters) and Andrew Todd. She became the proud farm wife of Golden Greeson in Villa Grove, IL on May 17, 1945. To this union that was formed two children, Suzanne Marie and Ronnie Golden.

Mary was an athletic girl, being invited to the Eastern Illinois University Girls Softball Team while a student at Charleston High School. After graduation high school, she played on, a Charleston Traveling Softball team, holding records for several years. She worked at the Charleston Shoe Factory earning 80 cents/hour; until a recruiter for the World War II effort made an offer of $8.00/hour; for those interested in welding in the Evansville, IN shipyard building ships. She attended welding school in Olney, IL, and after welding on L.S.T. ships. She further used her skills repairing neighbors farm machinery. She worked alongside her husband to develop Golden Acres a Centennial Farm.

Mary had a fondness for researching family history. She and Golden made many trips to others states libraries to do research on her and Golden’s families, as well as research for other people. She was proud to learn that she had two Revolutionary War Soldiers in her family line and was related to Mary Todd Lincoln. Mary also “read” and helped publish the records of several cemeteries.

She and Golden collected R.S. Prussia china. They were charter members, in forming the National Society of R.S. Prussia Collectors, and spent many trips adding to their collection.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Golden, her mother and father, step-father Harold James, sister Charlotte Hunt, and brother Richard Todd.

She leaves her son, Ronnie and her daughter Suzanne Cummings (Ron). She leaves grandsons Chris (Hollie) Sanders, Matt (Anna) Sanders, Scot (Katrina) Sanders, and Eric (Claudia) Sanders. Great-Grandsons Max, Mason, and Carson. Great-Granddaughters Sarah, and Laynie.
