Lela Fay (Nees) Carr

Lela Fay Carr, 87, of Hidalgo, IL entered Heaven at 3:15 AM on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at her home.

Funeral services honoring her life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the Hidalgo Independent Christian Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to service time. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family with the services.

Lela was born on December 7, 1931 in Cumberland County, IL to Leo Vernon and Bertha Fay (Neeley) Nees. She married Fred Carr on March 17, 1951. They were married 64 years prior to his death on September 17, 2015. They lived "on the corner" family farm in Hidalgo. Their years together were spent raising their children, farming, gardening, raising livestock, and enjoying time with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Ken) Ilg of Greenville, SC; three sons, Charles (Betty) Carr of Hidalgo, IL , Steven (Kim) Carr of Hidalgo, IL and Scott (Angela) Carr of Mahomet, IL.; eight grandchildren, Rebecca (Matthew) Helriegel, Nathan Ilg, Rachel Carr, Sarah Carr, Zacheus Carr, Isaac Carr, Aaron (Amy) Patrick and Ashley Giordano; and nine great- grandchildren, Jared, Jessa, Jillian Helriegel, Kylie and Caleb Ilg, Landon and Kole Patrick, and Madi and Gavin Maugeri.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, John Nees.

Lela enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and decorating for all holidays. She was known for her delicious toffee bars. Her favorite color was red, which was evident in her home decor as well as much of her attire. She was an enthusiastic snowman collector.

She was a faithful member of the Hidalgo Independent Christian Church. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
