K. Lavon Carter, 80, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 2:34 PM on January 22, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm on Monday January 28, 2019 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery at a later date.
She was born on May 12, 1938 in Toledo, IL to Edward & Florence (Scales) Sparks. She was married twice to Kenneth Wilton Carter and David Lee Alvis. Surviving are her sons Kevin Drum of Mattoon, Billy (Jenny) Carter-Alvis of Lerna and Jamie (Erin) Carter-Alvis of Charleston; 11 grandchildren Kevin Drum, Dustin Drum, Nicole Jones, Frank Jones Jr, Emily, Katherine and Shay Carter-Alvis; Kyle, Tory, Jaryn and Duff Carter-Alvis; 8 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; one Brother Earl Sparks of Toledo. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Nicki Carter; brother Charles Sparks and sister Joyce McSchooler.
Lavon was a phlebotomist and worked at the Coles Clinic in Mattoon for years, before that she had been a waitress. After retirement she enjoyed spending time on Facebook, reading Nicholas sparks books, and old country western music. But most of all she loved her kids and grandchildren.
