John "Buster" Roberts Jr.

John “Buster” Roberts Jr., 86, of Greenup, IL passed away at 7:10 PM on November 9, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday November 12, 2018 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday evening at the funeral chapel. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

John was born in Greenup, IL on October 19, 1932 to John Sr. & Roberta (Button) Roberts. He married Ann Green on December 19, 1952. Surviving is his wife; Sons Greg (Kathy) Roberts of Jewett and Mike (Tammy) Roberts of West Point, OH; Daughter Cyndi (Jim) Blade of Greenup; Grandchildren Josh Blade of Rimrock, AZ, Jamie (Kaycie) Blade of Greenup, Rowdy Roberts of Anaheim, CA, Wyatt Roberts of Chicago, Chance Roberts of Chicago, Chelsea Roberts of Columbus, OH and Alaina Roberts of Columbus, OH; two great grandchildren Freddy and Waylon Blade. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was an Illinois State Trooper and Detective for 25 years. After his retirement he owned and trained Thoroughbred Race horses for many years. He also was elected Greenup Twp. Supervisor for three terms. John served in the US Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954. He was a life member of the Greenup VFW post 4598, a member of Greenup Masonic Lodge AF & AM #125.
