Art was born on May 6, 1943 in Neoga, IL to Clarence and Mary (Tegeler) Sudkamp. He graduated from Teutopolis High School.  He served his country in the US Army from 1961 to 1964 during the Vietnam War. He worked and retired from the United States Postal Service, including several years as Postmaster at Casey.

He married Rose Ann Mette on September 13, 1975. Surviving is his wife and children; Greg (Kerry) Sudkamp of Mokena, IL, Lisa Sudkamp of Effingham, Monica (Stacey) Carl of Greenup, Amanda (Jeremy) Mumford of Casey, Ashley Sudkamp of Greenup and Austin Sudkamp of Casey; 9 grandchildren Abby, Aly, and Aubrey Sudkamp; Emily and Noah Carl; Eli, Daisy, Jack, and Violet Mumford; sister Catherine (John) Kelly of Elk Grove Village. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Sudkamp.

He was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Casey and the Knights of Columbus. Art donated over twelve gallons of blood in his lifetime and helped out ringing the Salvation Army bell each year at Christmas. A favorite pastime was watching football, wrestling and baseball, especially the Brooklyn Dodgers. He loved spending time outside and mowing the grass. He most enjoyed being with family, going to the kids sporting events, and traveling. He was a man of faith, never met a stranger and always had a joke to share.
