B. Pat Smith, 78, of Greenup, IL passed away at 1:59 pm on December 15, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday December 19, 2011 at the Greenup United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday evening at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Burial with full military rites conducted by Cumberland County Veterans will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

Pat was born on August 21, 1933 in Beggs, OK the son of Vernon and Vida (Bowser) Smith. He married Barbara Scott on October 21, 1956. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, son Steve wife Doreen Smith of Norman, OK, daughter Leslie husband Kevin Rowe of Elkhart, IN, sisters Arllis Dawkins of Washington, MO and Margaret Kohrig of Centralia, IL; grandchildren Tyler Smith of Norman, OK, twins Stephanie & Rachel Rowe, and Jenna Rowe all of Elkhart, IN and Mark McKay of Mattoon, IL. Pat was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bob Smith.

Pat graduated from Louisville High School in 1951; he served his country in the US Navy for 3 years during the Korean War.He worked for Dowell Oil Company in Glenville, WV. He graduated from and received a Master degree from Eastern Illinois University, he went on to get his doctorate from Walden University in Naples FL. Pat taught at St. Elmo grade school for 7 years, then was hired as principal at Cumberland Elementary for 20 plus years, then was hired as superintendent at Pontiac, IL for 4 years. He retired in 1991 and he and Barbara spent some winters in Florida, Pat enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and going pheasant hunting.
